Skaters freeskate 4 and above are encouraged to participate in an interpretive tryout on September 24th at 9 am or 10 am (times assigned by 5 pm on September 23rd)
What is an interpretive tryout?
Skaters will have 10 to 15 minutes to warm up their skills.
Then skaters will be asked to stand still and listen to their tryout music selected by the show director. The music will be unknown until this time.
Then the music will play for a second time while skaters make-up a program on the spot to the music.
All skaters will exit the ice until their turn to try out.
Each skater will have 1 more listening (listening only, no skating) opportunity before their turn to skate for their tryout.
Skaters will be judged on: variety of moves (5 points possible), use of the ice (5 points possible), posture and carriage (5 points possible), and theatrical expression (10 points possible) by a panel of 2-3 coaches. Skaters will not be judged on difficulty of moves.
Skaters will have the opportunity to voice their desired feature roles during their tryout skate.
Roles assignments will be given by the director based on their skater’s score during tryouts and the skater’s desired roles.
Skating competition wear is encouraged but not required for tryouts.
Features will pay an additional fee ($50 Heartland Members, $75 Nonmembers) for the additional ice time and instruction given outside of general cast practices.
Enrollment for Featured Skater Tryouts is now closed.
